Beauty Tips

Regal Roots Tidbit: Ever experienced knotted or matted hair after you take out your extensions? This happens for a FEW reasons. ONE you didn't comb through the buildup after you took out the braids. Do NOT shampoo if your hair is not fully detangled. Before you shampoo, apply a moisturizing conditioner to comb through. Ive used LeKair's Cholesterol on dry or slightly damp hair. Then I take small sections use a wide tooth comb, once its detangled with a wide tooth comb, go back in and detangle with a fine tooth comb using smaller sections. Then a LIGHT shampoo after. Do not pile your hair on top of your head during a your shampoo. Do NOT use a conditioner with protein for a few days. Both will cause the hair to tangle up even more. You will have huge knots. If you have extension braids its best to get the perimeter of your hair done over every 2 to 3 weeks to prevent buildup, tangling, and hair loss. The perimeter is THE most delicate. Remember to be GENTLE and PATIENT with your hair and put the protein back into your hair before your next set of extensions to build STRENGTH. This is advice is good for Relaxed, Natural, and Color Treated Hair (R, N, CT)

Matted Knots after Extension Braids?

Regal Roots Haircare Tidbit: Do you feel that your conditioner is not working the same? "It STARTED off great and then it stopped working." My answer: It still works the same. The ingredients of the product are still the same and your hair makeup is STILL the same. So whats the problem? Clarify shampoo. The conditioner has built up on your hair strands and you need to get it out! :-) remove the product buildup and start fresh. You can buy a clarifying shampoo or use good ol' baking soda. You should only clarify once a month. This advice is helpful for Relaxed and Natural Hair (R,N) ***Works well for color treated, but may be at risk of stripping your hair color***..

Clarify Shampoo Once a Month

Hair Color

Since Natural hair has not yet been processed it may take a little longer for conditioners to penetrate the cuticle to condition the hair. So sitting under a hooded dryer for 20-30 minutes on a regular basis should suffice. Another way to speed up the process is to place a steaming hot wet rag (after washing) directly on freshly washed hair with conditioner on it, then placing a plastic cap over it. Sit under the dryer and turn the heat on high (15mins). This will speed up the conditioning process because the hot steamy rag will generate more steam under the hair dryer, allowing the conditioner to DEEPLY penetrate the hair. Your hair will feel so hydrated and your hair will respond to the conditioners much better. If your budget cannot fit a hair steamer into it, this is the more economical way to do it. This advice is good for Relaxed, Natural, and Color Treated Hair (R,N,CT).
